Training Mules and Donkeys

We use gentle and practical methods, treating each and every equine as the individual that they are. We limit the number of trainers we take monthly in order to give each animal the time they need to learn.

Starting Under Saddle

For those who need to be started under saddle, we work first in the round pen, they will learn to walk, trot, canter and whoa through voice and visual commands. They learn to hold a bit, ground drive, saddle and are ponied on mountain trails before being ridden.

Once a good riding experience is achieved in the round pen, they are ponied out into the mountains and we ride them back.

Towards the last week or so of training, owners are involved to learn to ride and handle their new mount.

70 days minimum for 'starting under saddle'.
