Our Philosophy

In choosing our broodmares we look for traits that have proven to be beneficial in producing our high quality saddle mules. We have hand picked our mares. They are of a saddle horse type build, intelligent, gentle, have good confirmation, well bred and are 'willing to please' in disposition. In starting with these qualities we raise 'Mules that make the difference'.

We imprint our foals at birth, handling them on a daily basis. They are taught to halter, lead, tie, pick up their feet and load in and out of the trailer. The mares and foals live on open pasture as a herd. The foals run freely, playing and interacting with one another and learning important lessons in herd etiquette.

As yearlings our mules tie well and have had their feet trimmed several times. Their manes have been roached and tail heads trimmed with electric clippers. We trailer them many places and they have learned to be 'ponied' from a saddle mule or horse onto the mountain trails.

Our yearlings live in a mountainous wooded summer pasture with adult horses and mules. There is abundant wildlife and they are exposed to bear, deer, elk, skunks and many types of waterfowl. They water at several ponds and must often walk through reeds and mud to get a drink.

As a long yearling their formal groundwork begins in preparation for their life as a saddle mule.
